Why get a Cat Window Bed?
While all of these can be nice-to-haves in some situations, Cat Window Beds are always a great option to improve the life of your feline friend.
The most obvious benefit of Cat Window Beds is that they offer a high position and a lot of entertainment. While these may seem very simple, they can really improve your cat’s well-being.
If you have a cat, you already know that felines have a natural affinity for high grounds.
In nature, where cats evolved, high places are a place to escape from predators and to look for prey to hunt. For this reason height gives cats a strong sense of security and control.
Longing these feelings, at home, cats climb every piece of furniture they find.
That can make them feel safe, but does not usually entertain them much and can also be dangerous.
That’s where a Cat Window Bed comes in.
- The elevated position offers a safe spot that prevents them from getting ambushed. Unlike some of us, cats don’t like surprises.
- Cats adore looking outside and tracking birds and other small animals. How could you blame them, it’s in their “hunter genes.”
- This keeps them entertained during the day, causing them to sleep better at night.
- A high ground allows cats to establish their leadership status in the house. They love to remind you that they are the boss. You are just their human slave.
- Window beds provide a private place where cats can be alone, especially in homes with hyper-active children. Cats enjoy privacy and alone time.
- Window perches allow your kitty to bath in the light and warmth of the sun. An activity that, in moderation, has been proven to boost longevity and health (the same is true for humans).
What to Look For in a Cat Window Bed
There are several cat window beds in the market. Having too many choices can make it overwhelming to get one for your cat friend.
Let’s look at the most important factors you should look at before buying one.
It is surprising how cat perches that look very similar, can have very different weight capacities.
In general, to be safe, it is recommended to go with Window beds that can hold more weight.
This is particularly important for multi-cat households, where different cats may try to get on a perch at the same time. Fortunately, there are some cat perches that can help with that too!
Installation Type: Suction Cups vs Window Sill
There are two main types of Cat Window Beds.
Those that get installed with suction cups can basically be installed on any type of window. Some people have a hard time trusting that suction cups can hold their beloved cats safely, but companies have gotten very good at making them super reliable. They are also very easy to install.
The other type of cat perches (Window Sill), instead, require your windows to have a window sill and must be installed at the base of the window. These are also very easy to install and tend to look more resistant. However, if your window does not have a window sill you won’t be able to install them.
This may seem obvious, but many people forget to keep it in mind and find themselves with a cat window bed that does not fit their windows.
Product photos can be misleading sometimes. Always make sure to measure your window size and compare it to the product specifications before buying a window bed.
Are Cat Window Beds safe for my cat (and window)?
The general answer is yes.
The best Cat Window beds on the market have been used by thousands of cats with no issues, and are specifically designed to not put your pet or house in danger.
Having said that, to make sure that the product works as expected, you will need to install it correctly and follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
After installation, it is a good practice to put an object of roughly the same weight as your cat on the perch. This will help you ensure that the perch has been installed correctly and that it can hold your cat’s weight.
Are Cat Window Beds really easy to install?
Many people are surprised when they install a cat window bed for the first time.
The majority of them are super easy to install, don’t require any tool and take less than ten minutes to put together.
The best 5 Cat Window Beds on the Market in 2020
This cat window bed claims to be the best in the World.
Pretty big claim huh? While we don’t totally agree, we have to admit it is a very good option.
Particularly for people with no window sills at home. The bed comes with patented suction cups that will easily and firmly attach to the window.
Kitty Cot comes in three different sizes, all of which can hold up to 25 pounds. This is the least of all the window beds that we reviewed, so if you have more than a cat or just a heavy one, we recommend you to pick a different one.
One word of caution: the product image can be misleading. It shows a cat on the perch with a comfy orange cushion. We want to be clear and let you know that the product comes with no soft padding and you’ll need to use your own. For some cats a towel or two may provide enough padding for a comfy stay.
|Easy to install directly on your window||Comes with no soft padding (product image can be misleading)|
|Does not need window sill||Suction cups may pop off if not installed correctly|
|Firm and safe with patented suction cups||Many window beds support more than 25 lbs|
|Approved by Humane Society|
EZ Window Mount Kitty Sill – Double Stack
Best Cat Window Bed for Multi-Cat Households
This window bed claims to hold up to 100 lbs. More than double of most cat window beds!
Kitty Sill also comes with two levels, making it a great option for multi-cat households. Two cats can have their spot near the window at the same time. And you can still be sure that the perch will hold their weight.
Even if if you only have one cat, this could be a great option. Two levels can give your cat the chance to climb up and down for more fun and comfort.
One of the reasons I love the Kitty Sill is its unique design that makes it possible for you to fold the bed when you need to pull the blinds down.
Kitty Sill is also super-easy to install and does not require you to have window sills.
The bed comes with a machine-washable, removable cover that makes it easy to clean and maintain.
|Support up to 100 lbs||Suction cups gradually lose their ability to stick|
|Double level bed for more fun and comfort||The Bed has no cushion|
|High-grade solid steel frame for durable use||Covers are removable and machine-washable|
|Folds easily to allow you draw blinds at night|
|One-year limited warranty|
|Tool-free and easy installation and no window sill necessary|
Kitty Sill Cat Window Heated Hanging Bed and Hammock
Best Cat Perch for Cold Climates/Households
This is one of the few cat window beds that can be heated. If you live in a cold climate, this will be an amazing treat for your cat. The heating pad is energy efficient and can easily be removed when not necessary.
The design of this window perch is different from others as it does not come with suction cups. Some people don’t really trust them, especially when it comes to their cats’ safety. If that’s you, this may be the perfect cat window bed. Keep in mind that you will need to have a 2″ Window sill though.
If you do, installation is very quick and easy. If you want to install it permanently, you can also use the screws that come in the box.
Designed to hold up to 40 pounds, its super-comfortable orthopedic foam and soft fleece cover provide your cat with a great place to relax while sunbathing and bird-watching.
|Stable enough to hold heavy cats, supporting up to 40 pounds||Plastic frame may not support heavy weight cats|
|Super-soft orthopedic foam||2″ window sill is needed for placement|
|Machine Washable cover|
|Requires no tools for installation|
|One-year limited warranty|
The EZ Mount Window Bed Kitty Sill provides an easy way to keep your cat entertained with bird watching while sunbathing. It is super-easy to install on most windows.
You can mount the shelf of this window bed on most windows with the help of industry-strength suction cups. The surface of the perch is covered with a easy to wash pad that attracts kitty hair and dander.
This cat window bed is open at the top, allowing your kitty to playfully jump in and out with ease. This is also one of the few cat window perches that comes with a padding (although it could be better).
K&H claims that the perch can hold up to 50 lbs, but we would not recommend this if you have a large cat. A few people reported that the plastic pins may break with very heavy cats.
|Can mount to any window easily||Plastic pins holding bed to suction cups may break|
|Available in different colors||Padding may need replacement as it may not be comfortable enough|
|Kitty Pad acts as an insulator that traps cat dander||Not the most beautiful looking perch|
|Covered version available too|
Oster Sunny Seat Window-Mounted Cat Bed
Best Affordable Cat Window Bed
Oster Sunny Seat is perhaps the most affordable cat window bed out there. Though it combines some features of premium products.
This window bed comes with four giant suction cups for firm installation similar to those of the Kitty Cot. Thanks to those, installation is easy and does not require a window sill.
Like some other perches, this comes with a removable cover that can be easily washed. At the same time, you will still have to put some padding to make it more comfortable.
Despite the lower price, this window bed still feels sturdy. According to the manufacturer, it can support up to 50 lbs.
If you have multiple cats and want to buy several window beds to place in different locations, this can be a great option as well.
|Fit most windows at 12″ x 22″||Not aesthetically pleasing|
|Durable non-metal cables for stable support||Doesn’t come with a blanket or cushion for comfort|
|100% machine-washable cover|
|Easy to assemble with no tools|
|Good option for multi-cat households|
The Winner is…
If I were to pick a winner, my choice would surely be EZ Window Mount Kitty Sill – Double Stack.
This was an easy choice. This double-stack window bed is unique as it can easily accommodate many cats. Plus it is the only foldable cat window bed, providing some additional flexibility.
Out of all the window perches we reviewed, this is also one of the sturdiest, as it can hold the most weight. To make it even better, it’s as easy to install as any other cat window bed.
